tyre sizes

Mine had the different front and back sizes when I bought her 5 years ago but the excellent bongo mechanic at the garage suggested 215's all round, so I did and they went straight on the original rims no probs.

I need 4 tyres asap and at the mo have 215/55 A17 all round....got a quote today...but wondering now if I should go for omg i can't remember what they were but different sizes back and front...if I'm forking out for all 4 want to get it right

If you are running 17" Wheels the standard sizes are irrelevant to you - just make sure the load index of the tyres you get fitted is greater than 96 so you have the right carrying capacity on the rear axle.

Just checked and most 215/55-17s are 94 only some are 98 make sure your supplier gets you the right ones.

In short 93 is too low for the back, but OK on the front.

Tyres are your (and 2 tonnes of Bongo's) only contact with the road, so my advice is get the best tyres you can.

My 4WD bongo came from Japan shod with 215/65/15 96H tyres all round although the hand book and door plate say otherwise. It would seem that having 215s all round on 4WD's is not just a UK preference.

If you've got 17" wheels, look into the Accelera215/55 98w XL tyres, should be around £50 a wheel, the same size all round, they have a slightly protruding ridge on the tyre wall that helps protect the tyre from kerbing too.

It'll say in the numbers on the side of the tyres, it'll be 15, 16 or 17 - the blackcircles link that Scanner posted shows where it'll be & what the numbers on your tyre mean

If you can't be bothered to work it out for yourself like me then get to Wheelquick in Wigan and let Mike Snr do it all for you. I found his prices much more competitive than Blackcircle who operate from Peebles in the Scottish Borders less than 20miles from where I live.
