Fitting remote central locking
Hi, our bongo has central locking on the drivers door only, so i bought a kit,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0145278948
the seller who imports japanese cars assures me it will work. But it doesn't have an activator like the instructions in the factsheet. Anyone know if it will work?
I think we will probably have to get someone else to fit it as the diagrams don't make sense to us, and it is so different from the factsheet,
any advice?
thanks,
Ailish

You're right. It needs a solenoid for the drivers door. That's the missing bit. Not sure if the kit you've got will activate one though? Guess you could test the outputs to see if it does. You can buy the solenoids as a part of a complete kit from Maplins:

and as individual motors here:

Good luck

There is no actuator in the drivers door - so you will need one - if the seller has assured you it will work - it's his responsibility to provide it IMO. Obviously doesn't know what he's talking about

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

He sells 2 "upgrade" kits - one "For any vehicle" for £21.99 & one for specific vehicles at £16.99 - I can't see the difference between the kits.
He also sells the full central locking kit - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KEYLESS-REMOTE-CE ... .m14.l1262 - which is £19.99, the guy doesn't know what he's talking about, but if you'd checked the factsheet before ordering, or asked on here, you could have told him that before ordering the wrong one

I reckon it will work.. But like the answers above you need an actuator. (get the two wire version it's simpler to fit.) The only wiring you need to do will be in the drivers door to the actuator! To be honest it don't look that dissimilar to the Hawk system.
.. & of course the control unit, but that's your choice where you position that.
Judging by the size you might be able to position it under the dash to the right of the steering column or in the drivers foot well under the beeping stuff!! Having said that it looks like the aerial coming out the top of the box, so you would need a decent vantage point for reception of the fob signal..
Connected to a constant live + the unit will drive the actuator, which in turn will open or close all the doors via the rod linked to the factory manual locking.
I used a solid old school coat hanger wire for the rod on mine.. I found it easier to adjust the mechanism..

Re: Fitting remote central locking
hi, i did look at the factsheet and asked him if it had an actuator, but when it arrived it didn't have one. I have to say the guy has been helpful on the phone and is sending me an actuator today, so thanks for all your advice,

I got this one wrong too Dobby - the Maplins one isn't a remote locking kit - just a central locking kit.dobby wrote:You're right. It needs a solenoid for the drivers door. That's the missing bit. Good to hear you've got it sussed Ailishl, it shouldn't be too different to the instructions once you've got the actuator & rods, it can be a bit of a faff to fit the actuator & rods in the right position, but it's really not that difficult.

Re: Fitting remote central locking
Yep, it's one of those 'feel good' jobs, well worth doing.
There was some recent advice about not peeling off the film behind the door guard because the goo gets everywhere,. The advice was to cut the film and reseal it with tape.

If you do it on a cool or cold day & use a Stanley blade the goo's not too bad...

Re: Fitting remote central locking
I fitted a similar unit to my van 2 months back, it also did not come with the actuator I purchased the single unit from maplins, make sure you get the 2 wire one, it makes life simpler, the whole job took 2 hours with the longest time spent feeding the wires in to the door. with the 2 wires on the actuator when you connect them one way round they "open" reverse the polarity and it will "Lock", the lads in maplins assured me it would not work without buying the whole kit, I took great pleasure in calling in and proving them wrong.
