When the engine is cold, the water in my expansion tank sits on the "full" level.
When the engine is warm, the water in the expansion tank rises above the "full" level.
Is this normal ?
Can't say I have noticed this in other cars, having said that, not been so cautious abut heat related matters in other cars.
Thanks for help.

Thanks for the swift reply.
I knew that was the case, and logically, it made sense.
Just that I haven't noticed it on other cars, probably because I haven't had "Bongo overheating fear paranoia" on other cars
I was thinking maybe it was a signal of imminent radiator related expense .

Yep - It's why the "Full" mark is quite a long way from the top of the tank as well.francophile1947 wrote:Yes, it's normal - hot water expands

Thanks
It's amazing how much concern you can get from reading the forum
Makes sense really, but only had Bongo a few weeks, so I am still in the "looking for a problem " phase !

Re: Expansion tank Q
Have you found the low (and high) coolant alarms, and engine temp monitors on here? There are a few that say they're just a symptom of paranoia but many others who've had their bacon saved by fitting them - myself included. Just search on "coolant alarms" to get loads of info.kelvfarrell wrote:When the engine is cold, the water in my expansion tank sits on the "full" level.
