Hope someone can help!!
Just returned from a trip away and have noticed a whining from the rear of the Bongo.
It's a 4wd version.
I have swapped tyres around to see if it was them and the noise changes when swapping front to back but remains mainly on acceleration. Also, road surface has no effect on the sound.
It begins about 35mph and has gone by 55-60mph. Also, when moving away while steering there is a sound fro the rear that 'feels' like tyre slipping but seems to be coming from the centre - the diff!
I have rung a garage to ask advice and they agreed that the diff will probably need replacing. However, I still have a few weeks warranty on the Bongo and have spoken to the dealer. He says the diff needs to completely fail before any warranty will cover it. Is this tight? I think that it is only a matter of a short time before it does and I'd rather not be out, miles from home with kids when it happens!
Any advice? I wondered about changing the diff oil to a more viscous grade - is this suitable and what grade should I try?
Thanks

Re: Raer differential
Get the dealer to check the VISCOUS COUPLING which connects the drive from the rear to front. There's definitely a fault as you suggest and the warranty SHOULD cover it but I'm of the opinion the VC is a serice item and will eventually have to be replaced as such, so might not be warrantable

Thanks for that - I'll get on to it after the holiday!
