Post by neil/di » Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:56 am

Can anyone tell the position of the oil feed between the head and the block, as I think my head might have slow weep around this point
thanks

I don't really know what you mean :? There are usually several oilways between the head and the block :?

If the oil is down the side of the engine under the drivers seat towards the front...don't worry they nearly all have that....you should find you don't have to top up the oil...
Normally just a bit of a "crud" weep from a seal. If it's dripping then best to sort it.

Is it engine oil or is it diesel, as mine drips diesel I fear from one of the pump O rings. I keep meaning to book it into Wheelquick to be done but......

The diesel pump is on the drivers side towards engine front so the position and the other symptoms would fit with that. You should be able to tell by dipping your finger in the droppings and sniffing it

Ours leaks oil from the same place, been like it for over a year now can smell it ocasionally when it runs on something hot but not lots coming out as do not have to top up between oil changes. May have to replaice cylinder head gasket at some stage but will leave untill realy bad as worried about water leak probs.

Are you sure the leak isn't emanating from the rocker cover?

Sounds even more like diesel oil to me unless its something more serious like a head gasket thats somehow allowing a leak from an oilway :?

Frankly I'm flummuxed (which isn't hard for me)

It's just crud that gets by a "O" ring somwhere near the EGR system. When I was down at Allans (Plymouth) he explained it to me but I have forgotton exactly what it is....Anyway it is VERY common and not to be worried over...I have it and my oil level remains constant. It could even be EGR crud weeping out

The EGR can accumulate oiley muck but as your EGR is blanked, this oil is not from that.
It sounds like the really common slow weep of oil from between the head and the block (head gasket). It is very common and only becomes a problem when it starts to leak badly, but fortunately that is rare.
Allans garage closed. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
