Has anyone else fitted a top hose themselves??

No -it isn't me doing it it's Mr Clan johnson. He is having a b****r of a job tho getting the split one off the metal pipe letting alone put the new one on! He reckons he needs to buy a fancy ratchety type thing to do the deed -is this true??
El Bongo is my main transport and I've been Bongoless for a week now

Never done the Bongo, but I've had to cut them off other cars. I think that the old hose actually gets stuck to the metal pipes, through a combination of old age and muck in the system. I used a hacksaw - very gently

Hi,

I had a similar problem removing a smaller coolant hose to the rear heater matrix.

I cut the old one with a sharp stanley knife at right angles to the pipe connector, then peeled it off with a small flat blade screwdriver.

They do get stuck on so that was the only way I could easily do it.

I used a stanley knife to cut the hose lengthways and then pulled the hose in the opposit way to cause the knife made slit to open up, then it just 'popped' off.

I was having problems in getting the hose clip off and for that I used a pair of mole grips.

Thank you for all the replies. He did eventually manage to grind the clip off and remove the hose and after lots of cussing get the new one on. Now we have 2 lights on the dashboard lit up permanently -sediment and charge and it appears that we may need a new alternator. In over 2 weeks I haven't been able to use the Bongo at all and now this...Having just looked at the prices of said alternators I am ready to cry

Might be worth checking to see if you've knocked the connector block on the alternator when you were bleeding it, not sure if that would result in the lights being lit or not. Did the alternator get wet at all?

We think that we may possibly have got it wet when refilling after the new hose had been fitted -OH had hose spraying everywhere
