Front Heater resistor

Folks, this might be a stupid question but need your help.

My fan is not working. I reckon it's the resistor pack that is gone as the fan works when connected to the battery and the fuse is fine.

So can someone please confirm what the resistor pack connections should look like please?

There is the black portion which the electrical block plugs into and the ali bit. Should the electrical connections (five of them) be soldered to the tabs coming out of the ali bit as none of them are connected at present. Basically, is the resistor component in the black bit or the ali bit because if it is the latter then there are no connections to it at all at present.

That's why I am confused as I wouldn't have expected all of the soldered joints to break or is that something that can happen. It certainly would explain why the fan isn't working.

Thanks for that. I think I have found the answer in other posts so apologies for repeating the past. Sounds like the de-soldering is pretty commonplace by the looks of it.

No problem, it's one of the most commons faults, now make sure the fan isn't starting to bind, the resistors have gone for a reason

yep, the fan is currently exploded into its component parts on my workbench. Some nasty gung resident in the housing, so I might drill a hole in it once it is lubed up. Also will check the drain hole under the windshield as that seems to be an issue as well.

Top marks, enlarge the hole in the plastic casing below the motor too, it gets clogged with cack too easily & then doesn't drain. Good luck putting it all back together without the springs disappearing off across the workshop

Hi stueyboy...I keep an old cable tie in the battery tray for de-gunking the drainhole.

Quick update. Cleaned the fan motor and then soldered all the connection on the resistor and we have a working fan again. Thanks for the help. I did source a replacement resistor from fleabay for £10 in case my repairs didn't work so I now have a spare.

Nice one, did mine 18 months ago, although the fan resistor was ok as I remember, still going strong.
Have you noticed it's any more powerful than before it went kaput? Mine certainly blasted out much better on top speed

ahh this could be useful... my fan at full pelt is soooo quiet I wasnt sure it worked! Then it does take half an hour to demist the windscreen

Funny you should mention that, it is a bit of a blast on full power. When things go gradually like that, you don't notice until it's fixed.
