SCREECHING NOISE WHEN TURNING RIGHT.

Post by gavin » Thu Apr 02, 2009 8:47 am

Monty has developed a screeching noise when turning right only and only when moving, sounds like it is coming from the drivers front corner. Doesn't happen when stationary. It does not sound like a belt slipping.

Any ideas?

CV joints don't normally screech - they tend to make a knocking/clicking noise. I'd be more inclined to check your brakes for something, like a bit of grit, bedded into a pad. Does it stop if you apply the brakes?

I posted the same problem a week ago.

It turned out that the bottle that holds the steering fluid was empty. The noise is the power steering looking for oil. Same for me, only on turning right. The bottle is under the drivers seat, and it is hard to miss. Suprising as I had been in there many times and never noticed it!

I got my MOT last week, thinking I had a CV joint problem, it passed and I have a leak in my steering system somewhere, and adding Dextron 3 oil to the steering fluid bottle should fix the problem in the short term. Long term I guess we got to find out where it is leaking from.

TOOK MONTY BACK TO 321 AWAY WHERE HE CAME FROM ON BANK HOLIDAY FRIDAY. EXCELLENT SERVICE AGAIN, NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE AND THE MECHANIC CAME INTO WORK ON THE BANK HOLIDAY!

FIRST THEY TIGHTENED THE POWER STEERING BELT BUT THAT DIDN'T DO IT, NEXT THEY CHECKED THE BUSHES, THEY WERE FINE (ALMOST NEW). THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE BRAKES, WHICH WERE STRIPPED DOWN, CLEANED AND REASSEMBLED AND THAT CURED THE PROBLEM. YIPPEE =D>
