It doesn't seem to take much to block them.
Don't know about the valve mine doesn't have one....but if it sticks it doesn't matter who was supposed to do it.

The valve in the exhaust has coolant hoses in it's circuit (wonder if flippa is aware of these
) so I suspect the valve is overridden by the coolant temp.
Have a look in below rusty - its ovvious if you have one - it's a box on the front pipe

Sounds like the same symptoms I had with my Subaru Legacy and a 205GTi....both turned out to be the Air Flow Metre....may be worth checking. They can be cleaned and refitted I think but usually once they start playing up best to get a new one.

That is the main filter not the banjo BTW - I've suffered this 3 times now and never found cleaning the banjo on it's own does any good
Don't think that just 'cos it was changed recently it can't be the filter that's blocked - it can be, I've found it can block almost instantly.
Mine was perfectly OK Thursday - topped up with veg oil yesterday before a longish trip and it was chugging away last night.
Mine just doesn't seem to like a big dose of veg oil for some reason.
But check if you have the valve in the exhaust because if that sticks shut it could have similar effects.
Looks like you need to get the Steam Jenny out.

Didn't know that Dandy....I just assumed they were vacuum pipes. Sounds like the same symptoms I got with the blocked Banjo filter, had to clean it several times before it stopped blocking, has run perfectly for over a year now. But I don't use veggie oil at all.

UPDATE:
I checked the exhaust valve and all fine and dandy, as new.
Changed the fuel filter again and it seems that the bio-fuel absorbs water and turns it into jelly. Also it seems that the vegi oil seperates out in the tank and goes to the bottom because even though I am running a 75% diesel mix it was only vegi in the filter. Banjo filter also seemed a bit gooed up so cleaned it out.
Started up perfectly and had it ticking over for not long at all when I noticed water dripping from the head gasket
I'm not happy - will persevere

It would appear that not ALL bongo's have the same tolerance for chip fat.

If the head gasket proves to be ok, follow up the "fuel purging" via DBO's post on the previous page... Your injectors could be gummed up at the nozzles. Best of luck.

Bongo appears to have had a recon head in the past in Japan (my brother imported it) - perhaps it wasn't torqued down enough. There is no water in the oil, coolant didn't pressurise, the gauge didn't go higher than normal thankfully
Might remove the EGR whilst head is off - it seems to serve to keep everything very hot and not much else!
Gonna have a look at the inlet manifold, throttle body and the ports to see if there is anything to be gained
