Stuck keys in the ignition

Post by djvoodoopunk » Sun Mar 29, 2009 3:16 pm

Sometimes this happens and the key would not come out untill the car has cooled down a little (20/30 minutes)
Is there any way about getting it fixed or extract the keys if they get stuck?

You could always try a little white magic   - sorry, after looking at your forum name, I couldn't resist it
Are all keys jamming or just copies? The original keys are usually pretty worn by now, so copies may not be that good - a light rub with a file often helps.
If it's not that, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for a more knowledgeable person to come along 8)

Hi Voodoo,
The next time it happens select P disconnect the battery, and see what happens.

It may also need a slight adjustment to the gear selector cable.

Cheers Malc.

I think it is not the key itself.

Normally when you park and put the gear in P you hear a click and it release the key.

But sometimes it does not happen (the click) and they keys are stuck in the ignition

Sounds like the interlock cable isn't releasing properly, try moving the lever into P a few times to see if you get the click.

If not it could be that the heat is causing something to expand and that is preventing the release mechanism from working.

If that is the case the cable might need adjusting to stop that happening.

My bongo went through a stage of this strange phenomena shortly after i'd bought it... I used to shift the selector from "P" to "N" a few times, whilst "key wiggling" and pumping the foot brake... It usually worked, then a year or so later i'd noticed the strange occurrences had stopped...Touchwood!
