Need help tonight.
We are setting off for tough Northerners tomorrow early, so was hoping to get some advice tonight. Had a long drive last week coming home from Mablethorpe, towards the end of the drive the "4W ABS" light came on but then it went out again later. We have just taken the bongo to fuel up for this weeks trip and it is coming on again. Is it anything serious or unsafe to drive to Craster tomorrow. Thanks for any help Trish

Re: Need help tonight.
I remember waycar mentioning something about the abs light coming on when he drove through water or heavy rain. dunno if that's what you have done.
i also remember him saying turning off the ignition and then turning it back on resets it. if that does not work it might be a sensor fault.

Lost without my Bongo.

Re: Need help tonight.
The Bongo has an on board computer I think
Never had problems with my Bongo but I have had problems with the warning light on my Jeep Cherokee. After trawling the Jeep websites on the internet I found a blog that recommended disconecting the starter battery for 15 mins to let the computer re-boot itself. It worked, no problems since. Perhaps someone could confirm that this will work with a Bongo.
See you tomorrow.

Re: Need help tonight.
Ours came on after we had been 'experimenting' with the 4WD on sheet ice on a carpark. Switching the engine off and back on again sorted it. I presumed the ABS system had got confused due to the varying traction it was encountering.

Thats spot on my little lancashire smurf

Yes i drove through a puddle (ford)

Noticed the brakes wernt as effective but still worked, got home read my little manual and it does say that if it comes on turn off ignition then back on and it will reset, its not dangerous as your brakes will switch from abs mode to normal (remember the days when cars didnt have abs

well enough of the old times, Trish dont worry about your brakes they will still work but not as abs

Enjoy you meet Trish and Harry

Re: Need help tonight.
Thanks Wayne sorry but I didn't get to read this till we got home.
We think the brakes are still working as normal. We have noticed the light comes on and then goes out with all the other lights after ignition. The light is only coming on and staying on if we switch on the car headlights. Will this just be a crossed wire do you think?

Re: Need help tonight.
possibly, have you had any electrics done lately?, or had the dash (clocks fascia) out?, maybe knocked a wire or even a bad earth somewhere.
other than that i couldnt imagine why it comes on when you turn the lights on

hi there ure brakes will work as normal ones do only difference is that if u press to hard they will lock up ,on the fault the light comes on when u use electrics it could be a battery voltage drop?poss battery or charging concern.

Thanks mate that actually makes a lot of sense. No recent electrics done but we noticed the charge dropped quite quick at Craster. Cheers will look into it.
