Unidentified Electrical Switch(?) with Vacuum Connections

Post by ParkLife » Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:19 pm

Guys,

We've noticed that my Bongo has some vacuum pipes hanging off what looks like some sort of electrical switch, just under the hand brake on the drivers side. There are two pipes (pointed at with the red arrows) which are disconnected and have been since I've owned the van with no obvious consequences.

When you reconnect the pipes there is a very odd noise being made when running at a reasonable speed. I've been through all the electrical and general schematics and can't find reference to this box anywhere. Does anyone know what it is, or what it's used for?

Thanks in advance.

hi those pipes are supposed to be conected to the blocks at the back, as the pipes bend over to each of the rear leccy conectors, they attach towards the rear of the blocks, then they have a return pipe the comes out of the rear of the conectors and down.

Not sure what they are for but i think it to do with the egr system.

Yeah, I know where they are supposed to be connected, but when they are, the van makes a strange noise indicating all is not well. They've been disconnected for as long as I've had it so it can't be anything critical??

if it is to do with the egr they arnt critical as alot of people blank the egr off anyhow to improve performance/stop black smoke on acceleration ect, do a search loads of info on egr, someone will be be along and tell you exatly what they are for.

Thanks to Dreamwarrior for the info, the one on the right is to bring the idle speed up when the ac kicks in (just got mine working 8) ) Not sure about t'other one, connected to the idle speed I think. The egr ones are behind those, if you've still got them.

Ah, that would make sense, the revs do drop when the A/C kicks in. It's no biggie then if it's not connected / working.

Nope, most people don't even realise theirs isn't working
