v6 odour problem
hi, i have an odour problem which is only noticable after the van has been idiling, then it becomes noticable when i drive on, it smells a bit like fumes, sort of a mixture between oil and petrol but only when the van is at normal temp not when cold. Has any one experienced this and can anyone throw any light on it,thanx

Re: v6 odour problem
hi,
i also have a v6 and notice similar smells.it can range from burning rubber, oily smells to petrol fumes.it seems a lot of v6 owners have the same issues.it may be a good idea to put your location in your profile,so that someone local to you may be able to help you out.
thanks
jamie

Check your cam and crank seals i also had this smell and small leaks from the seals so oil was getting on the belts and burning off, but now after five long weeks and new seals, cam, alternator and ac belts, w/p gasket, inlet cam pulley, rocker covers re sealed and new washers i now seem to have a smell free ride
( and a smaller bank balance

Hi,
Another thing to check is the winter/summer flap under the bonnet. I had mine set to winter and it seems to suck up more smells into the heating system.
Doesn't mean the smell should be ignored though, just that it's more likely to get into the interior.

Re: v6 odour problem
Could it be a small oil leak making it's way to the exhaust manifold and burning off?

Mine burns off on the flexi bdc oil gathers in the sump pan lip runs around to the back of the engine, but it seems 400 mile on after some wynns and a very clean engine no more oil and i thought what a load off ........ it prob won't work but hey cheaper than a seal and less hassle
