Four weeks ago, on the journey home from work up the M61, Boris the Bongo developed the dreaded 'Flashing Hold Light'. After searching the forum & Members area and using the information found there I daignosed fault code 6 - speed sensor fault, and promptly booked Boris into Auto Gearbox Repair Services in Preston, where they agreed fault code 6. However after swapping the speed sensors for some spares they had it became evidet that the fault lay elsewhere, maybe the speedo head, or the ECU - ouch thought I, could be very expensive. After some thought and bearing in mind other users comments about how helpful Wheelquick of Wigan have been to other NW members, I gave Mike a ring... What a guy! He told me to take Boris over to Wigan on the following day (Saturday last week) and he promptly swapped over the various parts for me to try, after around 2 hous it became evident that the fault lay somewhere else. I thanked him for his help and asked what the damage to my wallet was, he replied nothing!! What 2 hours Labour at a Garage for nothing !! Obviously I had to slip Mike Jnr a little something to take his dad out for a Pint or two, as I couldn't leave without paying something.
Then I remembered reading that it was possible that the error code 6 and 60 are difficult to distinguish because of the way they are displayed, I mentioned this to the Gearbox specialists and we decided to change the Gearbox Solenoids, and guess what BINGO! Boris is back to his old self.. 0-60 in 3.5 hours just like the old days.. only joking!
I thought I would describe the driving response of Boris when in fault mode, in case any one else develops the same fault:-
1. Hold light Flashing 6 steady ON-OFF
2. No locking of the gearbox in overdrive at 40 MPH
3. Unresponsive to acceleration when in D or 2 from standstill
4. Responds well to acceleration when 1 is selected
6. 6 long flashes of the hold light and one longer pause when in diagnostic mode
So once again its hats offf to Mike & co at Wheelquick!

That is surely excellent service. I wish Wheelquick were closer to me should I need them.
I used to have trouble with flashing hold light occasionally, but it was always accompanied by no speedo. Stopping, turning off the ignition, waiting a few seconds then starting up again always cured it. The fault was in the speedo chip, used to convert it from Kph to Mph. So if you get that fault, flashing hold light and no speedo, you know where to look. I have now removed the chip and fitted a Mazda 626 speedo and the problem has gone.

Good news
PS - it;'s not an overdrive - its a mechanical torque convertor lockup which eleminates the slip from a fluid type of coupling
