SPEEDOMETER- CONVERSION

Post by gina » Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:18 pm

Hi just replaced the speedometer conversion, should we have taken off the old Kilometre disc as we now have no lights behind on that dial?

Do you mean you've fitted a speedo face over the old one, without removing it? I think a couple of people may done this, but it's better if you take the old speedo face off.

Yeah you need to take the old one off. You will need to take off the needle. Be gentle.

I did that with my dial---put new one on top of old--stops light getting through--youve still got to take the old one off--the needle has got to come off--use 2 teaspoons for leaverage resting them on the 2 small screws lever gently & watch the balance weights when they drop out --remove original dial & put new one on only--before replacing needle & weights switch ignition on then replace needle at zero--this worked for me but don't work for everybody.

Hi Gina, when I replaced the dial face,I removed the old face, cut the new face from 6 oclock to the centre of the dial.
I then eased the new cut face over the pointer, fitted the two screws and put everything back together.
That was about a year ago and its working fine.

Cheers Malc..

I got a Mazda 626 speedo from a breakers. This has the advantage that the odometer will also be in miles.

A Bongo by any other name would still drive as sweet.
