Slap some new Veg Oil in it and give it a good blast to clear the crap out! Or of course some injection system cleaner and do the same!

Agree with Dabs - give it the old Italian tune up

Has the air filter been changed recently? A stuffed filter will result in unburnt fuel/black smoke . . . .

Re: Black smoke when on full throttle
change the air filter, try to get a k and n one, cheaper in the long run.
you can get some fluid that goes direct into the fuel filter that will do a good job on the injectors rather than the stuff that you put into the fuel tank. i always do that when its due for an mot and never had a problem yet. just before you go to the mot spot give it a good thrashing to try to clean it out.
might be a good idea to do the cambelt first before the mot as they floor the engine to do the emmisions test, if the cambelt gives up it could turn out costly.

If your bongo is indeed straight off the boat, a good service, plus an "italian tune-up" should clear up that smog nicely!

If none of that works, it may be down to the EGR - this may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=14463

Re: Black smoke when on full throttle
I had a problem with black smoke on start up in the cold at altitude and doing short journeys. I found a glow plug to be not working and once fixed appears to have solved it.
