Rusty rear wheel arches

I have rusty rear arches. Can you buy replacement arches?

Hi Animal,

You can't buy off the shelf replacement wheel arches.
Couple off guys on the forum have had there rusty wheel arches cut out and got some cut out from scrapped Bongo.

I think (I have said before) that some kind of Spares Club could be formed and as a result hard to find/get parts could be remanufactured.......this has been done in other Car Clubs and works..... 1st in line ..... Wheel Arches?

The way it works.... members of the parts club buy shares and this gives discount off of the finished products.
The funds raised goes to make the parts (wheel arches for example) then the finished article is sold and any profits (less the discounts) can be put towards more stock and to make other parts.... and it goes on.....

If anyone wants me to do some work on this /sort out to set up/ propose to members or whatever......let me know..... before it's too late....and in these economic times we could be onto a good deal with firms gagging for new work..

Good idea Mike....not sure wheelarches would be viable. They are double skinned and would be expensive to reproduce...There are loads of unrusty bongos being scrapped and a good "totally* rust free pair of arches can be got for around £80.
However, I'm sure the idea could be explored in other items...In fact Ian does get some items made if he thinks there is a demand...ie...tow bars...roof bars

Do you think there are that many good ones out there? I was thinking that for the future that maybe a metal repair once the rust has been cut out could be finished with a fibre glass section blended in (or Arch kits).

Also as a tangent I was told that the universal kits that have the serrated cuts need a lot of welding and hence panel distortion?

PS I think the spares club is a great idea, I'm hoping for a few more years out of the bongo meself

it's been a very long time since i posted here! and i dont visit as often as i would like.
i'll get to the point. i have two jobs i want done on my freda - one of them is the rusty near-side wheel arch. i have been contemplating this job for a year now and watching it rust away at the same time!
perhaps i could endeaver to keep you informed on how i get on; it would give me a reason to post

Looks like I'm not the only one watching my rear wheel-arches changing shape and colour

I had made enquiries about the plastic spats that cover the offending area,( they look good to! ) but, alas they are no longer in production. Looks like a repair job is going to be required.
probably cost more than the bongo is worth now!!! but she's worth it!

Anyone wanting info on replacement wheel arches have a look at the "Eastern Counties" Index on this forum.
I have had the rear arches done on The Bus.
They are not a perfect match to the original but are pretty good and much better than the rusty eyesores that were there.
The man used universal arches widely available and had no trouble with distortion but it was difficult getting the arc just right.
There should be some pictures eventually, I have sent some to Ben who will get them on the forum for me.
If you need any further info just ask, do it on the forum then everyone can see.
