Removing Front Cab Headlining

Post by apole » Mon Mar 09, 2009 8:24 pm

Hi,

Has anyone removed the front headlining. I don't need to remove completely, just enough to get some cables up there neatly.

If I unscrew the sun visors, would that help?

Can you not follow the route taken by the cabin light cables ? They run just along the top of the screen, where the top is not stuck down but just held, I guess, by its stiffness etc. Need to remove cabin light to gain access.

Iv'e fitted a power cable for a TomTom and also the hands free mic up there.

I've laid loads of wire up through the pillars across the dash and behind the panels never dared the roof lining, i know one thing once you have taken the rear head vents out they don't go back properly unless you taake the lining down, from memory i'm not so sure actually that the linihg isn't glued around the edges but i didn't look at it that closely.

I'm following this one with interest. I need to access and repair a leaky rear washer pipe over the front passenger door but I haven't plucked up the courage to start tearing things down yet [-o< [-o< [-o<

I don't know if its different on AFTs but I put some insulation above the headlining of my tin top by simply removing the sun visors and interior light, then dropped the door seals and the head lining dropped down giving me loads of room to slide the insulation into place. I also have cables running across for the hands free microphone and the ultra sonics for the car alarm.
I fit hands free kits for a living and generally only find that headlinings these days are stuck in place if you have had a new windscreen fitted and they have used too much mastic.

Another way to run cables above the head lining is to remove the door seals and use a pull through such as a drain unblocking tool between the side and the hole for the interior light.

Thanks stringman - I eased the nearside down just enough to access the rear washer pipe, located the leak and fixed it - no problems - now I just have to get everything back where it belongs [-o<
