over heating advice please

Hi All, i have had my bongo(freda) for for over a year now what a brilliant vehicle.

The other day whilst picking up the kids, i notice my temp gauge fly right up so remembering advice i had seen on this site previously i pulled over imdediately. Looking under the bongo i could steam escaping from one of the pipes (the one from the near top of the engine driver side to the radiator i think , it passes the fan under neath the engine) . So after getting recovered by the AA yeasterday i managed to get a new pipe fitted by my dad (diesel mechanic).

I took the bongo out last night and all was well the temp gauge sitting at the 11 am position without moving. On my way to drop of the kids this morning the temp gauge was fluctuating between the 11:30am and 2:00 pm(75%) never raising higher than this. i could here the fans kicking in and the temp gauge coming down.

When i got home i waited a while before checking the water/coolant levels and i had a bubbling effect coming from the coolant tank ?

Could i possibly have air pockets or am i looking at a thermostat issue , my dad thought that the head had not been warped or damaged.

Any advice welcome

Did you bleed it properly as per the fact sheets in the members area? If not you'll have air locks. Do not drive it until it has been bled properly.

It is rarely sufficient to simply top up the header tank after losing coolant, particularly after an incident such as you described.

The system needs bleeding properly via the bleed hose under the passenger seat.

how much coolant did you lose,you will probably need to bleed the system.pay close to the factsheet (members area).bongos need carefull bleeding.
post your location someone near by may be able to help.
there is lots of info on the forum around this type of issue.

I'm afraid the bongo is not stright forward....you carn't just refill like most other vehicles.
You have now overheated twice......Bleed the air out as per the FACTSHEET....or get a garage who knows how to do it...(not that many)
However I suspect the worst and damage could have been done.

I have downloaded the fact sheets and spent the last couple of hours giving it a proper bleed, i shall give it a test run later when picking up the kids, ill keep you all informed
