Front fog lamps - misty lens

Post by dom_e » Thu Feb 26, 2009 5:52 pm

My Bongo's gone all misty eyed :?

Our Bongo has the factory fit front fog lamps, one of which seems to be a bit leaky. Consequently, one lens cover is misty/wet on the inside.

Does anybody know how to get the clear lens cover off?

I've done a search looking for possible solutions, but haven't found anything definitive - just stuff about bulb replacement. There are two metal spring clips, which if removed, don't seem to actually retain anything! It's not apparent that any of the screws actually hold the clear lens, so before I go taking the whole lot to pieces, does anybody have any ideas?

I'd doubt the lens is the problem, unless it's damaged? The lens seems pretty well sealed on there, i'd look for a slice, or some kind of damage to the rubber boot on the rear of the lamp.

Does the condensation clear if the lights have been switched on for a while?

I've tried removing those clips on mine too a while back, but I think the lens is bonded to the body of the lamp. What I did was strip them down, washed them in warm soapy water to get the dirt off the reflector & then left them to dry in the airing cupboard for a few days.

Assuming the lens is not broken, the water must be getting in from the rear. There is a little rubber pipe which is probably to allow any water to drain out. Check this is pointing down so water can't get into it. The only other place it could be getting in is via the rear cover. Mine were missing altogether, so I've had to do some modifications to keep the water out. I would imagine if you have the proper things, either a drop of Vaseline, or Copydex would make it water-tight without making it hard to replace the bulb.

Thanks all.

The lens is intact. I'll have a go at removing the rear bit later today.

The left lamp also seems to be on upsidedown  is that correct?
