Cam belt question.
Just rang the MOT centre to book it in..
Need to get that done to tax it as both run out on the 28th & i'm out of the country this weekend & i don't want to be driving an illegal back from the airport when i get back.!
So the guy i booked it in with for tomorrows MOT goes on about the cam belt..
My vans done just two clicks shy of 113000, about 70214.944 miles.?
I know i havent had the CB done in my two year ownership.. Does it need doing based on the mileage or kilometreage it has done.?
It's diesel, 2.5. Cheers!

Re: Cam belt question.
Hi,
If you don't know when it was changed last then I'd advise getting it done. If it fails then the results can be very expensive. Does the garage you are planning to use have a good history with Bongo's? It's worth ensuring whoever works on it knows the car well as their work will be better, and as importantly they will know all the things relevant to the bongo.
I'm not sure if the tensioner and followers need replacing at the same time, someone more knowledgeable will no doubt reply soon.
On some cars it is also a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time, again not sure on the bongo.
I guess the garage maybe coming from the angle that the test involves revving the engine hard, all places have signs up saying that they are not responsible for any engine damage that may occur when doing this.
I think the most important thing is to ensure the car is worked on by a good bongo garage, then you can be sure the car is properly maintained when it needs it.

Re: Cam belt question.
They definitely MOT'd it the last time..
I got my usual garage at the time to change the oil in the engine & gear box, do the filters ect prior to the last MOT. (They do know the Bongo).
& for piece of mind i would get it done when i get back, but to be honest i can't be doing with all this faffing about before this "Italian job" @ the weekend.

Phoned the Bell hill boys up too.. Got some great advice! Looks like a new cam belt is on the cards. (But it will have to wait till i get back with a fist full of Euro's!)
General consensus is the CB should be changed @ 100000.00 km or 62137.119 miles, & since i haven't a clue when the last one was done...

It's fair to say it should be...

Re: Cam belt question.
Cambelt's supposed to be done every 100,000 km, so if you're not sure as to it's history, I'd bite the bullet & get it done.
Water pump isn't driven by the cambelt, so I wouldn't worry about that.
I'm sure a couple of weeks either way won't make a vast difference (usual disclaimers apply of course
)
Get the mot done & do the cam belt when you come back IMO, they don't rev it that hard during the MOT.

Which is why i needed the MOT sorted before i get back!

Whoops! Just had to censor one of the bands names..

Re: Cam belt question.
Worth giving it a run immediately prior to MOT to get it up to operating temperature, ideally a short motorway or good uphill run to blow muck out of the engine and exhaust.
you can ask them to do the emissions test as soon as you arrive, thus minimising risk of damage.
Good luck, and have a great hol.
