Unused wiring loom

Post by loftustowncrier » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:01 am

Hi everyone,

When I was looking at a sticking speedo needle problem yesterday I came across an unused wiring loom which sits next to the loom for the front fog lights. I only have one working switch that side of the steering wheel (right) so am not sure what it could be for - does anyone know? I'd be upset to think that the Bongo could have more technology and it's not being used. It could be something really exciting! :-)

It could possibly be for the cibie foglights that are fitted on the bullbars of some bongo's.

Parking pole maybe?

Hmmm... not sure. There's no evidence to show the Bongo has ever had a bullbar fitted and there's no parking pole either. I just assumed that it was fitted as standard and unused... just wondering what I could do with it!

You could try using a multimeter to see if it becomes live with the ignition on/lights on. That should give you a clue.

Could be the winter pack switch
Location says where I am... I'd rather be justabout anywhere else! Suggestions or job offers of/in other parts of the UK gladly received...

Well, it would tell me if it's live and connected..... not what it might have been used for in the past :-)

I remember seeing a spare loom connector block lurking around that aria. (a series of 4 red & black wires attached to a white block from memory)?? :-k
One of the wires should become live when the lights are on! (for the backlight bulb).
A solid red wire i think. :-k

The unused winter pack spur tends to be attached to the back of a blank next to the rear fan switch..?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

We're looking for our Cibie spotlights to get wired up. Where will I find this loom bit, just in case it's already there.

Hi Morag. It seems that not all Bongos have wiring looms for fog lights ready installed. Not long ago someone posted this picture showing you where to find the fog light relay if you have one.

The relay if it is there should be in front of these three.

:P If it becomes live with lights on, it points to the plug being associated with fogs.

I think the parking pole becomes live with the ignition on. (couldn't swear to that, no parking pole on mine)

Hi Morag, sorry, not meaning to be pedantic, but the cibie lamps are more like dipped beams, or fogs, or both.... They don't give out the long range pencil type beam associated with driving/spotlamps. They do appear to be spots (big and round) but give a large spread beam more indicative of fogs.

The reason i say this is to save you the hassle of having the cibies connected, then expecting them to light up the country road a quarter of a mile away, sorry, they just won't, as they are the wrong type of lens.

If however, you are after a good set of FOGS, then yes, they are "spot" on... (sorry)

If you have the spare plug hidden behind the dash, then have a rummage for taped up cables behind your front bumper... Whether there is an apparent relay or not, Check for colour continuity from the wires on the plug, to the colour of the wires taped up under your front bumper.. Chances are some of them match perfectly.
