oops...

Post by shadow » Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:09 pm

HI folks, we drove home last night with a horrible noise coming from the engine - on inspection I see that the bongo should have three fan belts but we only have two and a few tattered remains of one that runs from the alternator - the one nearest the alternator body.

engine temp stayed normal and we had no warning lights or reduction in steering or braking power. Big question, if any of you could help is what broke, what could we have done to the car and where can we get a new set of fan belts?

any suggestions would be most welcome

thanks

new fan belts can be got from the club shop or bongo bits etc

If yours is a diesel it take 2 fan belts and an aircon belt so my guess would be its a fan belt.

If it were me Id change them all ( as I'm lazy and don't like doing jobs more than I have too)

If it's one the pair of belts that drive the alternator & waterpump, as long as T'other one is still doing it's job, it' should be ok, but change at least the pair asap, if not the ac one aswell as Rob says.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Check the crankshaft pulley for security in case it caused the breakage :?
