Foglamps again......

Post by dandywarhol » Mon Feb 16, 2009 12:56 am

This may have been discussed before but I can't find it - is there a warning lamp on the dashboard for the front foglamp operation when they are factory fitted?

The odd thing with mine is all though the front fog switch is illuminated with the dash board lights, there is no indication on the actual switch or the warning panel on the speedo part of the dash when they are actually switched on...
When i fitted the white dials i investigated the set up & found two empty warning lamp areas one for the AFT up warning (i have a tin top) & one for ABS (no ABS Fitted).
Yet i have factory fog lights switch & loom fitted! :?

I did read of someone on here using a fog warning lens from a 626 dash pod & rig there own light in an empty spot in the Bongo speedo pod..
Don't quote me on who it was.. I think it could have been John the sparky, some one like that??

I suppose i could rig it so the ABS warning light comes on when i switch on my fogs...
Hope this helps..! :D

Just found the link..! It was the rear fog, sorry the lens was off a 323.. :D

Thanks for the replies folks - I fitted a 626 foglight switch and wondered if the lamp was in the dashboard. Come to think about it, I might have used a rear foglamp switch from the 626 - does the front have a warning lamp incorporated in it?

When I first wired them up they were pretty poor - then found the relay was only putting out 10.3 volts with the engine running. A quick dismantle and clean of the relay contacts and the job's a carrot - 13 volts to the lamps now :D

The one i use for the spots is a 626 front fog switch with an on warning, but that only illuminates with the main beam..

The switch in the middle, right bank.

The rear on the left i put a blue led in it to illuminate when on.
I just hope they let me have it when the MOT comes up next time..?

Thanks for that - I'll need to look out for a proper foglight switch :)

I have got this mysterious bulb which never lights up and an aftermarket rear fog light switch fitted by Jal which I can't see from my driving position. When I posted about it not long ago peps seemed to think it was part of a now defunct Japanese Alarm System. Do you think that could be wired up to be used to tell me that my rear fog light is on Alan? My existing switch is easily knocked on by my knee and I am getting fed up with other motorists flashing me to tell me that my rear fog light is on when it should not be.

Sounds like a good idea - just take the 2 wires down to the switch :D

dandywarhol,
I fitted my own, had a spare light from a 626 indicator and light stalks just pushed it in place and cut a rear warning from an old speedo unit (can't think where I got that) and taped it in behind the smoked plastic and wire it to the switch. It comes on when the switch is on.

I also fitted the low water LED light in from the back. There plenty of room in there 8)

Don't know if this helps, but we have a light to right of steering wheel when spots are on and a switch to the lower left which switches between the two pairs of fogs.

I too have drilled the dash and fitted a red warning led for the rear fogs and I am going to fit a bright blue led inside the front fog switch as the standard warning bulb cannot be seen in the daylight. I will report back on the success or failure of that experiment.
