Headlights come on on there own - ghostly deeds?

On 3 occasions over the past 10 days or so the headlights (not the rear lights) have come on by their own accord. In this time the Bongo has just been parked on the drive and not taken out at all. One time only the offside headlight came on. To turn them off all you have to do is reverse the position of the light stalk without turning on the ignition, ie if it's on dip pull it to the mainbeam position. Has anyone any ideas, perhaps it's a cold weather thing?

Hi stig, when they illuminate, is it dipped or main beams?

Hi there,

It depends on what position the lighting stalk was left in. Normally it's in the dipped position, but if I have turned the phantom lights off by moving the stalk to the main beam position and left it there the next time it happens they come on in the main beam position. Without the engine on you can hear the relay clunk in quite clearly when you move the light stalk.

I have an electronic problem with my (brand new) company vehicle which is caused by temperatures below 0c and water in the works. Could be similar?

May sound like a silly question, but do you have automatic headlights - I have seen them on one bongo (aftermarket of course) but this one had a light sensitive pad just under the windscreen on the dash right hand corner. It did have an off switch.
I was converting it at the time, and as I lowered the door to the workshop, the headlights came on .

Hi there,

I believe that it is possibly associated with the very cold weather, the fact that it happens to a brand new vehicle would be even more worrying - thank heavens for warranty.

From the enclosed you can see there is some unusual device - remote starter? - together with a small circular sensor? answers on a postcard please. The problem hasn't happened for a week now but it is still a worry. Sorry can't work out how to insert an image but basically it looks like a black half a boiled egg with a small wire antenna comming out of it.
