Could be the linkage has come apart from the operating lever, does it feel loose when you move it?

What Bob said, look in the drivers footwell by your left foot,

Have you got the digital climate control, or the manual set up?

Kirsty could probably write a factsheet on this (if she hasn't already :) ). Here's a link that may help.

If yours is the digital control, are you sure the actuator motor is there? It's the lighter grey box upper right on the photo, plugged into the white connector block lower right. We had someone recently with that missing.
If it is there, does it make a noise & turn the little spindle that the rod connects to when you change modes on the digital control?
If yours is the manual control it is a slightly different set up, without the actuator motor.
See if you can make something from a bit of coathanger wire maybe? just make sure it's a proper old fashioned one

If yours is the manual heater controls, I don't think it's supposed to have that rod that goes to the actuator, or the actuator, I think it's operated directly from the control cables, hopefully someone with a manual set up can confirm?

So what can be wrong if I am not suppose to have the rod? Why does the heater not go on the screeen?

I can't say for sure, but I think the manual one is slightly different in that it is operated from a cable from above the white cam/linkage arrangement that comes direct from the heater controls. Try sticking your head under to see if anything is moving when you move the controls. It may have become detached from behind the heater control panel.
Hopefully someone with the manual heater controls will be able to help out?

Just found this. If you see, there is a vertical cable that comes down onto the left hand side of the cam & clips onto the protroding bit, this comes down from the heater controls & is what moves the cam instead of the actuator & rod on the digital climate control one like mine ( I think)

This was from this thread http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ps#p219798

Please find attached (hopefully) photos of the Heater linkage in my bongo. I'm not sure that there is any wire bits missing... Does anyone's look the same as mine?

The first pic shows the broken bit of the part.

The second pic shows a wire that is in Kirsty's pic above but not in mine:
