Tyre Pressure

Post by EdinburghCamper » Sat Feb 14, 2009 12:12 pm

Hi Guys,

I have the default model 1997 P reg Ford Freda. Really struggling to work out what my Tyre Pressure should be. They feel soft and the ride feels overly bouncy.

This site says on the FAQ's:
http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/faqs.htm

"What Are The Tyre Pressures?
32 on the front, 34 at the rear."

I presume that is measured in PSI? If so, my current readings state 45 PSI-ish on each wheel. Something is not adding up.

Can anyone shed any light?

Gary.

Hi Gary, it depends what train of thought you wish to follow. If you are happy with the approved pressures, then fine use em.

There is some confusion as to whether those pressures apply only to the tyres that the bongo left the factory on though.

When i used to have 15" wheels, on 195/70/15 tyres, i used 38 front, 40 rear.

I'm not suggesting you do the same, but my head didn't fall off, nor did it start to rain frogs simply because i detrated from the official factory figures

You do not say if you have a two or four wheel drive Bongo or if yours is converted or unconverted. Mine is a four wheel drive bongo with a full side conversion and shod with the same 15" tyres all round, currently I am inflating my tyres to 39psi all round. Quite a few run their Bongos at even higher pressures, the original Mazda tyre pressure recommendations are thought to be only suitablefor older Japanese tyres made for road conditions found in Japan.
