Heater motor - Thanks to David Small!

Post by stilldesperate » Sun Feb 01, 2009 10:20 pm

I removed the seized heater motor, and, when stripped, found a horrendous amount of rust in the rotor.

A couple of hours in diesel, and careful re-assembly, and it's working fine.

Thanks to David for the "Heater bushes" factsheet. The resistor pack had de-soldered as well, once again, the factsheet helped immensely.

Fantastic. Amazing how the accumulated knowledge on Bongos has ended up making them so manageable to run. 8)

I did find that the drain hole under the motor was blocked, it's cleared out now, and hopefully will stay that way.

One thing I noticed on testing was the motor was a bit slow - I think because the bushes weren't seated fully on the rotor. I left the cowling off for a while, with the fan on full, and it bedded itself in. Now running much faster.

I drilled the drain hole out a bit bigger on the last one I did, hopefully it'll allow the bigger bits of crap out that block it. Wish I'd done mine when I had that out, but at the time I was just chuffed to have fixed it & wanted to get it back together.
