Timing Belt Change, Now Power Loss.

I just had my belt changed and driving home was peculiar. A distinct loss of power and it seems to fail to reach top gear. It's a 2.5 Auto It struggled up a hill at 2600 and 40mph.

I know he has done something wrong, but what and how easy will it be to remedy?

sounds like the timing is out. I would take it back and get it checked

Maybe the pipe from the turbo dislodged

Also, if the timing is out (which it sounds like it is), you'll probably need a new timing belt, as it's not wise to refit them after they've been used.

Beat me to it. On more than one occasion (one of them very recently), this little pipe has not been replaced after work done on engine, with resulting symptoms just like what you've described.

Ya got me there but one end presumably attaches to the turbo. No doubt some wag will be along with the answer shortly but have a search on here meantime as that may turn up some info (can't remember if there ever were piccies

)

I know theres some discussion about reusing/retensioning timing belts and I go along with it with the serpentine belts on modern twin cam diesels driving other appliances too but the Bongo is a low torque setup and I'd happily refit and tension it again.

Here's the pipe - see both ends are connected - ignore the swollen coolant pipe - its foobared

Thanks for the suggestions and support.

I took a look at the pipe pictured, and this led me to the problem. It was indeed a pipe that wasn't connected, the big air pipe over to the right. Five greasy fingers later, I am back on full power. Happy Days!

So I can now happily tick a few jobs off my list.

Change Top Hose. my old one looked exactly like the one in the picture, ready to blow!

Haydn's friend did the stud and all the belts including the cambelt. I bought the parts, Labour was £120. which I think is pretty good for two very tricky tasks.

Unbeatable I'd say - who'd want a new car and main dealer service prices after a result like that...is what I say!

This friend of mine FRANK (I play golf with him) has been a vehicle/bike mechinic all his life and is now semi retired.
He will do the best job he can at a very reasonable rate...Do NOT expect a posh garage..He now works at the back of a Pig farm out of a large shed (you can get a Bongo in) with another guy who does small bodywork jobs and spraying. All is cash in hand and cover your seats with a old sheet.
Having said that ...so far he /they have done my No1 stud and cambelt..Retro Bates as above and sprayed my bumpers and lower bodywork...They are cheap as chipsand so far so good. They operate 10 miles from Yeovil near Somerton/Langport.
As a matter of interest...Frank noticed the Cambelt factsheet says about 2 hours....he is no slouch but reckons quite a bit longer
Pity he left the air pipe off but better men than him have done that...no harm done...hey ho!!

You're right - anyone can make a mistake but there's no excuse for not road testing it after the works been done! (IMO)
