Loss of all constant 12v and Flashing Hold - Heeeeeelp

Post by Lewy » Sat Jan 24, 2009 6:14 pm

So as I'm trying my new multi meter trying to get my remote locking to work I notice that the permanent 12v I had plumbed into when I originally installed a Hawk keyless entry actuator was not working - and the central locking was not working either - although it was yesterday!

Now ive got NO radio, no internal lights, and a flashing glowplug to boot - so it seems all switchable 12v is okay but permamant feed is not working at all - any ideas. Main fuse blown somewhere - but which one?

Please help as I'm knackered without the van.

Thanks - Lewy

There's a fact sheet on fuses in the Member's Area.
Interior lights and central locking are different fuses though. so you may have shorted something out somewhere.

Had a look at the fuses - they seem fine - how do you actually tell if they are blown though?

Just don't get how suddenly so many things are out - but they must be to do with the constant feed. I did get a bit of an arc at one point across the main battery teminals as I was trying to work out the multimeter...

I also looked at the wires in the door hinge - but they all seem fine unless I've disturbed something.

Can I drive with the flashing glow plug light - have read that it may be to do with the scavenger fan and telling you its not working? I suppose this would be on a constant feed too?

I have noticed that th glow plug light can flash if you put ign on without the top left 10a fuse in :? . replacing fuse normally sorts it out.

Yes Fuse number 1 a 10 Amp, in the top left corner. If you pull the fuse out you should be able to see that its blown but not always easy, best to compare against another - but if you have just got a multimeter then put in on Resistance range 200 Ohms Ω is best although some also have a Buzzer range normally the lowest range available, and then put the probes on the ends of the fuse, the meter should read close to Zero 0 and if it has a buzzer then it should BUzzzzzzz, if it doesn't then its blown.

And the winner is - Fuse number 1 - blown.

I will be interested to see if this restores 12v to where I plumbed in the HAwk receiver??? That was what I was trying to do when I inadvertently blew the no1.

That'll be tomorrow when I get the multi meter on it. Thanks for the replies people.
