Brake disc replacement, any recommendations?

Post by serge » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:53 pm

Hi all

I have just been told after my oil change service that the front and rear discs on my 95 bongo need replacing....I have the 2.5 litre, 2 wheel drive version with alloy wheels and have been quoted £600, is this the right price?

On looking, I see that there are 276mm and 286mm available, which one should I go for?

I noticed that the mazdabongoshop link from this site can provide all discs and pads for only £129, but no sizes are stated, so can I assume that the sizes may be universal ???

I am nice but dim as you can see, so your help will be much appreciated

Cheers

pads and disks for under £90

different disks to the rear so that may be your size difference

£600. cor serge have alook at the front of your bongo in case someone painted the word "mug" on there, lol, they are ripping you off, happened to me once with a certain network quoted me around £150 for changing brakes, I said, "hang on a mo" and had a look at the front of me bongo, when he asked me what I was doing, I told him someone must have painted mug on the front, he wasn;t very amused, have a look in the tech section re parts match I am sure I read something re discs and which the bongo is compat with. Happy motoring.

Serge,

If the guys you took the Bongo to are dodgy enough to try to charge you £600 for brakes, then there's always the possibility that they were 'slightly untruthful' about the condition of the brakes in the first place :o - get them checked somewhere else.

I have just sent you a pm Serge.

Sourced mine from a local spares shop, very reasonable price.
