Starting problems

I think it's either the alternator or the starter motor. Turn the ignition very strange clicking noise. That's it the starter motor doesn't turn over at all help please

Obviously check the battery terminals are on tight and battery is not duff. Then it sounds like it's down to repairing the starter motor or replacing it. Winter pack (2 starter battery) Bongos have a more powerful starter motor and I believe you can't get replacement bits for it, but for others Bongos you can replace the dodgy parts and get a cheap repair. Sorry if you know all this! Have a search on here for the thread (and I guess it is a factsheet too in members area). All thanks to Moonshine (Colin) for discovering this handy tip. Good luck.

Mine's leaking from the diesel injector again (grrrr) so looks like its back to Wheelquick with my friend Fat Wallet before long.

A new contact set sorted mine - same symptoms. I got the kit from here

Really quick service and cheaper than my motor factor and about 45 mins tops. If it's just started doing it it's unlikely you'll need to replace the solenoid plunger

It's been having problems for a few days now. I have had to jump start the last couple of times. I only brought the battery last year so don't think it's that. Thanks for the info. I have no idea on changing the contacts, this is why I am booking myself on a car maintainance course in september.
Typical just splashed out on some tyres so I can put my 17" alloys on. Hope this is not going to be an expensive week.

There is a supplier in Southampton listed in the compatible parts database that can supply the lot, I think it was around £20, delivered pretty quick too.

As regards hitting it with a hammer, it worked for me on several occasions before giving up completely, most notably the first time it went after filling up with fuel in France & wouldn't start to move off from the pumps, couple of taps with the hammer & it started

Good news the Bongo is ok now

Thanks to Pit stop Garage in Bodmin.

It was not the battery, it was not the alternator or the starter motor, it looks like my leisure battery wiring was causing the battery to drain. So that's all disconnected and I will have to check the wiring, at a later date.
