Oil pressure lamp lit - 2 litre petrol

Post by uplymegirl » Wed Jan 07, 2009 1:36 pm

Can anyone please advise me it there is somewhere near me (Lyme Regis) who could look at this problem. Unfortunately for me i bought this ford freda 1998 2.0p on 5th december and problem arose on 27th. Rac advises me not to use and contact seller as I have a warranty from this small company who convert bongos. Seller appears to have vanished. Help

Have you checked the oil level?

Did the RAC give a reason for the lamp being illuminated?

Have you checked the oil level under the passenger seat? the oil pressure light is also apparantly a low level indicator too. If it does need topping up don't overfill & is it leaking from somewhere?
Hopefully someone will be able to point you at a local garage.
If you have a warranty is it from the company that have apparantly disappeared, or a third party?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Welcome uplymegirl (ah we've had many happy holidays nr Lyme Regis). Can't promise of course, but with any luck it should turn out not to be serious. Best find out what it is though (as per others advice above) before continuing to run around in it. One one of my old cars, it turned out to be the pressure switch that was faulty.

Thanks for replies.
Rac checked oil level which was on the line, he didnt want to investigate further in case of invalidating warranty bearing in mind also that i had only had the vehicle a couple of weeks and had just been mot'd and serviced. If I cannot reach the conversion company in Devon by the weekend I will have to approach a local garage.

Hi uplymegirl.

Fingers crossed it's nothing more serious than a faulty sender - either the pressure or level ones.

Can you give us more info about how/when it came on? Did it come on during a drive or did it just not go off when starting up one day? Did you run it for any time at all after it came on and, if so, did the engine noise change at all?

I know of at least a couple of conversion companies here in North Devon - curious as to which one supplied your car!

Fair point, keefysher.

I certainly didn't mean to have their name on here to 'shame' them, simply to see if it's any I know of - including their reputation. I might possibly even be able to reassure uplymegirl that they'd very likely be 'safe' with their warranty if it's one of the 2 very local ones to me.

Hi,is the seller and the small company who convert bongos the same person.?
A garage will be able to check out this problem by removing the sender unit and using a pressure gauge.

Cheers Mal..
