Torque converter unlocking

First cheap and simple remedy would be changing the ATF. Has it been changed in the last 2 years? It should be red. If a dirty brown then definitely change it.

Give the filter a damn good clean too, not a lot of point just changing the fluid if you leave a load of crap in there & have an obstructed filter.

ATF level is fine, I think I was one of the first (about 2 yrs ago) to question if 4 Litres ATF was sufficient for replacement, my box takes 6L easy but it is a '98 model.

Did you have the problem before you replaced the fluid? I've got a 98 model & I believe I only got about 4 litres of ATF when I did the change on mine. Could it be that 6 litres is too much?

No idea really but have a search for 'solenoid pack' in case it is relevant, as I know some autobox probs were cured by replacing this. can't remember what the precise early symptoms were though. Good luck and keep us posted

If there's no hold light showing then its unlikely to be the soleniod pack. It might be the start of a TPS (on the fuel injection pump, with 466 stamped on it) fault. It could be giving the ECU a false signal and "telling" the 'box to change down.
A diagnostic flash check will tell you the TPs code - code 12 if I remember.
