Quite frankly I'm amazed they haven't taxed it in England. It's no different to diesel and heating oil - just make the tax payable on autogas sold at petrol stations. They could even add a nice pong to it, so that it could be easily identified as duty paid (the opposite of red diesel).helen&tony wrote: The truth is, the Government wants your petrol taxes, as taxing gas to the same extent as fuel is not possible, as bottled gas is a commodity used for cooking in many countries, and even in some rural areas of England I have visited,

The tax on propane for use as a road fuel is higher than for heating/cooking use. I used to have several customers with 2 large tanks, one for domestic use, and one for filling road vehicles.
Different rates of tax to fill each tank.
Don't get involved with the cowboys who will tell you that you can fit a Calor gas cylinder in the boot of your car and just swap it at the DIY store. I'm also ex Fire Brigade and have seen these whilst at work.
You also run the same risk as running on Red Diesel if HM Customs catch up with you.
The only way for a gas conversion is a proper job on a petrol engine.
