Wanna see my 6/7 month old front droplinks

These are what the title says, i believe Missfixit had hers die in 9 months, how many more of us are gonna have the same prob with the ebay droplinks, i believe i hold the record now msf for the shortest lived pair they are really bad knocking around the joints are goosed beyond goosed.

To be fair to the ebay seller who shall remain nameless because he has done exactly the right thing by replacing them no questions asked I think he knows they are bad ones he asked for me to keep hold of them for him because his supplier will need them, the ebay seller is fair and i will use him again just not for droplinks

The replacement pair look remarkably the same but im not so sure that they feel better they are nice and shiny tho we see how long these ones go for

Hmmm. Ouch.

Had mine replaced in May with some ebay ones. Good heads-up there Cheffy, will give mine the once over as they sound a little weak already.

Nice to know the seller has scruples.

How much were they? I got mine from my local - and very reputable (Pat Williams) - motor factors for around £10 each.

I can't remember to be honest they weren't that bad, but more expensive than the vectra ones, I was goin to try vectra ones, think there about a tenner but was concerned about the strentgh of them on a 2 1/2 ton motor to be honest clearly they may have been the better option

Ooh - fair point! I should have mentioned that mine was the Vectra one...

And, I haven't fitted it yet

I'll give you that one Cheffy, I think you killed yours quicker, I still haven't actually got around to fitting my replacement ones starting to knock a bit over speed bumps If it's the same seller he replaced mine with no quibble, & seems to recognise there is a problem, hopefully just a duff batch - we'll see.

I've replaced all the anti-bonking bushes and links with original parts this year, and it sounds like they're bonking again, so we're jacking the car up to "Find The Klonk" over the weekend to check....So..... it may not be just cheap bushes/ links....perhaps they're all sub-standard ?

What's the best way to check the drop links and anti-roll bar bushes? I have a definite 'clunk' going over ruts and ramps, but I can't detect any obvious play in either.

Should the front be jacked up, blocks placed under the wheels to raise the front for access and then the car lowered again so's it's higher but the suspension will be returned to the normal-load level? Ie: so's that these parts aren't under any strain when being checked?

Any tips/tricks?

mine are goosed as well
had mine for about 10 months cost £25 or so for the pair

now bought new heavy duty ones off ebay and also rear ones as they starting to knock

guess what i will be doing crimbo eve

if i contact the person i bought my old ones off i wonder if they will send me a replacement pair ?????

I did say to the seller i hadn't got to the rears yet, to bizzy at mo to get under it the fronts can wait a while till my hol in jan got some other more pressing probs to deal with first

I was just wondering if there is any correlation between short-lived drop links and wheel/tyre size?

Maybe the harder ride on lower profile tyres on bigger wheels punishes them more or something?

But the other factor is mileage, not time.

Our van (with 15" wheels) is still on the drop links it came with three years ago, but that isn't a huge mileage, I guess. You could easily do a similar mileage in a few months, if your Bongo is a day-to-day driver, and not a dedicated campervan.

It seems to me that the Vectra d/l's may be the problem here. Although they do fit & are much cheaper than the Mazda articles, the Vectra (1370kg) Vs the Bongo (2140kg) obviously is going to take more of a battering.

I'll pay my money for the genuine article this time round.

Replaced my front droplinks with ones from AVA around 10000miles ago - still going strong, touch wood...

just changed our vectra droplinks after 2 1/2 yrs so they cant be that bad after all that time.

Trouble at t'Mill.
I found the best way to check was for Tony to grab a drop link (keeping well out of the way), and for me to rock the Bongo until it clonked....you can feel the knocking anywhere along the rollbar assy. and roughly gauge where the sound feels as though it's coming from. Are you any good at "feeling' a noise?
