Fact Sheet in the members area may help you.

If you need a replacement try a place in Warrington, PM bigdaddycain for info. You can do an exchange by post as I understand.

If you are ever up Warrington way,ask geoff at L.A alternators (Bridge Foot) to run a check on it,He's a genuine expert in such things, and will even re-furbish your old alternator if need be...(at a fraction of the cost of a replacement)

Never replaced the belts on the Bongo but on other vehicles I normally slackened the adjuster bolt (on the slider) just enough so that it would not spring back against the tension of the belt. Then used a wooden hammer shaft to lever the alternator. Tension it so there is about 2cm deflection on the longest part of the belt.

New belts usually stretch a little, so check tension again after about 500 miles, unless they squeal beforehand.

Rule of thumb, it should be tight enough to be able to flex the cable through 90o at the midway point but no more.

so i wll get hold of the belt ...dead centre of the pulleys and move the alternator slider until the i can twist the belt on the up and down axis to 90 degrees and no more... and then tighten it up ?
