There was some surface crud in the expansion chamber, but as Haydn suggested the plastic itself was fairly opaque. Looks like I'll have to get one of those alarm things![]()
I followed the bleeding proceedure but my bottom hose took ages to finally warm up, and after an initial water loss through the bleeder (when I started the engine) very little came out at all, just a couple of burps. Coolant in the expansion only dropped about an inch (once btm hose warm).
So how do I really know it's been bled successfully?
Hmmm. Did you follow the workshop manual procedure, with all those run at tickover for 2 mins then 2500 for 5 mins advise etc. and repeat instructions? I seem to recall a nice solid flow of hot coolant out my bleed pipe was my confirmation that circulation was good and that air seem to have been properly expelled, so a lack of that with yours puzzles me. Out of interest, have you fitted a new thermostat just to be safe? Not expensive. How long does it take your temp gauge to move off the stop towards operating temp (mine takes, at a guess 2 miles of driving on a cold morning, before changing the thermostat it was double that).
