The Alternator will start by charging the S/B, once the voltage of the S/B is back up to the correct level then the relay will operate and connect the two batteries in parallel. This way the Starter battery is always charged first, if the alternator isn't charging the S/B (for whatever reason- like engine off) then the relay will drop out and the two batteries will be independent of each other, that way you only use the S/B for the engine and main fuse block wiring.

yes thats correct it will charge the starting battery first, but only if you have a Inteligent split charge relay inbetween them or a normal relay (thats wired to the alternator) then when thats charged it will allow the excess current through the realay and charge the leisure battery.

I'm running a fusion 2ch amp, and a sony 4 ch amp, no problems with voltage stability, i'm not running a power cap either, so the demand is quite sudden without even the slightest of headlamp dimming whilst the mirrors are trying to shake themselves off the mountings!

well ive ordered a 0awg autoleads kit for now
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOLEADS-PC4-28- ... 240%3A1318
not bad considering the distro blocks etc tha come with it
il see how that goes, maybe with an upgrade on "the big 3" and if i really need to go down the extra battery route
i suppose ill just have to see how it goes and hope for the best
