I HAVE THIS PROBLEM
has anyone else had any experience of this system? i know it uses a vacuum diaphragm on the pump lever. the vacuum is controlled by two solenoids. these solenoids power up briefly when the ignition is switched on, but not after that. so the revs dont increase and she coughs and splutters for a little bit on cold start.
anybody got any ideas?

Bingo for Bongo

Have had two weeks trouble free start up on a series of cold damp and frosty mornings (well as cold as it gets in the soft south in November)

the solution?

1.Millers diesel additive
2.waiting ten seconds after the glow plug light goes out before turning the engine over.

not sure which one, as started both at the same time, but have not forked out £250 fo fuel pump seals

These "solenoids" allow vacuum to operate the diaphragm to raise the idle speed for cold start AND when the a/c is switched on.

I'd guess your spluttering is a glow plug problem.
