Re: Fun with exhaust
I was quoted £250 for a full stainless steel system and when my middle pipe goes then this is something I will seriously consider because it comes with a 'lifetime of the vehicle' full gtee . If the back box drops off then they have to replace it - - -

Hippotastic.
Surely you aren't just going to take this lying down?!
Please, at least, email: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/ and see what he has to say. Keep the details brief and to the point.
AND contact your local Trading Standards officer...

Re: Fun with exhaust
I have emailled both. I got what I expected really, and I am not mad. I just wont use them for anything and be happy in that.
They will not replace it, and I can put a straight pipe or buy a replacement for £45. Life's a bit short to rant over it, But lets see where the emails I have sent lead us to.
It will be interesting if it turns out I can press one one front or anther, but until then, I am not going to let the b*st*rds get to me!!!!

Your right is against whoever sold you the van, but if that was a private transaction you have no rights.

I bought privately, and the car is as described. The fault happened two month later, by a breakage going over a speed bump. You have fewer legal rights if you buy privately. The car must be as described, but the other rules don't apply. If a private seller lies about the condition of a car, you can sue for your losses - if you can find the seller.
Job done, case closed. Thanks for your interests in this, I just got to decide new back box or straight pipe.....

Re: Fun with exhaust
Don't mix stainless and mild steel exhausts. The cathodic nature of stainless compared to mild steel can cause the mild steel section to corrode at an accelerated rate.mister munkey wrote:Take the opportunity to get a stainless steel back box. 2nd hand ones come up from time to time & they look the bees!!

Well, that's an education, Hippotastic
How disappointing that the seller isn't interested in helping you - that's an astonishing attitude.
I'm sure everyone on here would say "no problem, give me the car for a day, and I'll stick the tail pipe up Kwik-Fit's a***..."

To be honest most cars are sold as seen. I still feel it is a good vehicle, I can feel it in me waterTrouble at t'Mill wrote:Well, that's an education, Hippotastic![]()

Now if I had bought the exhaust, and being fair (my true failing) Kwik-Fit were willing to put the new part on and replace it until it was pointed out that I am not the person on the receipt. So what is there to be angry about? these things break.
My intention is to run the van every weekend and shake the bugs out.

Re: Fun with exhaust
I bought a new backbox. I took the broken backbox off before it fell off (no doubt at speed) making a untidy mess. I ran the van with just the pipe to see how loud it was, and it was too loud for me. Also I have no idea of where to purchase a pipe (cant make one myself) so I bought one recommended on here, it fitted right on, and seems to have done the trick.francophile1947 wrote:So are you going to fit a straight through pipe? - much cheaoer

Re: Fun with exhaust
Nice one. I once bought a mini with a straight through big bore exhaust ...it was so loud it set off car alarms. Ouch.
