Bleeding Cooling System.. Hosepipe method. Advice please :)

Post by Eat Aunt » Thu Nov 20, 2008 8:33 pm

Hi people

Am going to have a go at the hosepipe bleeding method tomorrow.

I've read the threads regarding this but would appreciate a kind of simple list ie;

1)
2)
3) etc

Will this method clear out all the mucky old gunge in the system?

Guess the engine has to up to temp for the thermostat to be open.

Today I found a few holes in the bleed pipe, close to the head. Waited for the engine to cool right down. Cut off the offending 2 inches and replaced hose.

Topped up header tank, approx half litre.

I've had this leak for blooming ages

Any hints and tips (even horror stories) most welcome

Many thanks :D

Ian

Could be a false economy cutting a bit off a pipe,, The rest of it and even others could well be past their sell by date. If in any doubt over any pipe change it now...could cost loads if they leak and go un noticed

...but of course the low coolant alarm you have fitted will prevent total disaster. Thats the line I take with mine anyway. I like a bit of risk, but not a lot

Cheers guys

Its a stop gap till I can afford a set of sexy blue silicone hoses. Then get all alarmed up as well...oh and replace the glowplugs YET AGAIN

(Rest of hose in question is fine thanks)

Last year had top hose replaced by Bongo friendly garage. Rad flushed etc at same time

Am going away in my trusty steed for the w/e so would still like any hints /tips on the hosepipe bleeding method.

I tried following the other threads but they usually disloved into arguments

A nice simple list would be just great

Many thanks in advance

Ian

All is revealed in the coolant factsheet in the members area - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... oolant.pdf

No, I do't blieeeeeeeeeve it. Arguments on overheating and bleeding bongos, never.

Mine had small splits in the bleed hose and I changed and bled it (sorry, Hadyn did all the work and supplied all the advice). Thanks Hadyn. :)

Flippa, nice blue bleed hose from e-bay, was the same price as a genuine mazda one. Pays your money and takes your choice.

This link refered to on the coolant bleeding fact sheet doesn't work. Any ideas? What do the diagrams/pics show, are they any good?
