Seat back spring removal

Post by bongolow » Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:02 pm

Anyone tried to remove the spring that tensions the back of the passenger seat?

Once the seat back is tilted forward of vertical there is no adjustment until it's tilted as far as it will go, so I was looking at the possibility of filing or grinding extra notches in the seat adjustment cam. However, this would involve removing the spring and it's a beast. Even if I succeed in getting it off without ripping my fingers off I doubt if I would ever get it back on. Has anyone done it - is there a trick I don't know about?

I haven't done such a thing, but if anyone has an idea how to do what you suggest I'll be very interested. If the front seat can be adjusted so that the back doesn't go so far forward it will make the foot-rest seat more comfortable.
