SLIDING DOOR

Post by wazzie » Mon Nov 17, 2008 8:13 pm

Greetings,
can someone please clarify whether or not the side door should close automatically, that is slide shut then lock. I've read lots of links but can't work out what every one is talking about...

cheers.

You still have to close it manually its just the latching part (last half inch ) thats auto.

Gently slide the door to close it, (not slam like a van door) it will then self close the last bit and lock.
Lost without my Bongo.

Count the contacts on the door frame - 5 means you have got the self-closing door.

I would previously have gone as far as to say that any that didn't have self closing was broken.

Just to complete my education for the day, how many contacts does one have that is not self closing?

The vans that don`t have a "soft" close side door only have two plungers that move in and out - if you have three moving plungers it may be worth checking that the fuse hasn`t been pulled - as it was on mine. #-o - put new fuse in and my door worked - I spent 18 months telling everyone to give the door a good tug and now I`m telling everyone not to pull the door too hard. I found out about this in Florida - thanks to Westonwarrior. =D>

I'd become vaguely aware of the idea that some Bongos don't have self-closing doors but - like Trev - had thought it could not be so as it seems an odd choice for an 'optional item'. When hunting for my Bongo, I inspected one Bongo that had a door that didn't self close and the dealer admitted it was because it was broken. It didn't really bother me and I wonder sometimes what real advantage it gives. Just another thing to go wrong, as it has on more than one Bongo owner we know of from reading posts on here.

Anyway, I've got one and it works.........so far :?
