cold start problem 2.5 diesel bongo

Post by wrighty » Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:37 pm

have had car 20months and never had a problem starting it from cold but just recently its taking quite some starting. thing is until now ive never noticed a glow plug light come on. anyway it doesnt come on could this fault mean there not working and what do i do to rectify problem.
another little thing is that the problem started morning after ide filled up at tescos so could it be a poor diesel problem. once it starts its ok all day(and runs good) its just the initial morning start thats the problem. ime at present trying to run all the old feul out and am going to replace it with shell super diesel is this something you would reccomend through winter anyway . thanks bit disjointed but think ive got my prob over i hope

I don't use supermarket fuel anyway (unless I really have to!) - the proper stuff works out cheaper in most vehicles. Don't know about the Bongos though - I've never tested it cos' I use a veg oil/diesel mix :D
It definitely sounds like glowplugs is your problem. If you lift your bonnet, there is a glowplug relay to the left of the battery - this should click when you turn the ignition on. If not, it's knackered.
BTW, welcome to the madhouse :D - don't forget to put your location in your profile - local help is often available from other Bongo owners 8)

Check to see if you're getting voltage on the glow plug rail under the drivers seat when you turn on the ignition. It may be that you're relay has got wet, has it got a plastic cover on?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
