can anyone tell me what this is for??

Post by parawaiting » Sat Nov 08, 2008 1:39 pm

bongo has been of the road for a while whilst i got the fuel injerctor pump serviced and i am now putting everything back together, this rubber cap came off a metal pipe that attaches to the cambelt case.nothing was obviously leaking when it has been running so i am a bit confused as to what the pipe does and what fdlows down it??here is ther pic http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq15 ... /bongo.jpg

thanks

Is it a small bore pipe just forward of the engine on the passenger side? If so it's a spare vacuum take offpoint (very handy for fitting cruise control  ) Difficult to get an idea of scale from the piccie .
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

As Kirsty says, this appears to the be the rubber cap that seals a spare take-off point on the vacuum pipe to the brake servo. You should plug it somehow otherwise brake performance will suffer & it will be sucking lots of air & dust into the vacuum pump. If you can find a length of small-bore tubing (approx 3mm) which will slide over the pipe & then insert a bolt or screw into the other end.

Alternatively, fit a Waeco MS50 cruise control - a very useful mod :)
