grooved brake disc advisory on last mot

Post by hogggman » Fri Nov 07, 2008 9:31 pm

hi all,
on my current mot, which i didn`t take it for-the seller put it through for me-it had an advisory notice for slight grooving to brake discs.
i only found this out not long ago,as the seller didn`t pass on the advisory note, but i saw on the mot that one had been issued.i checked online and found out that way.
i had never noticed a problem with the brakes, but wondered whether it`s worth waiting to see if it gets through.
can brake discs be `refinished`,sanded, smoothed,or whatever,or should i replace them now?
if so,is it an easy/expensive job?
thanks

hogggman,
if it was an advisory on the last it will probably will fall next MOT unless rectified. They can be re-machined but probably be cheaper to replace.

Would most likely be cheaper to buy the discs and pads that YBB suggested as by the time you get your discs skimmed and change your pads (advisable) it will save you money in the long run as you will have new discs and not even thinner old discs which will be more prone to warping.
If I had all the money I ever spent on my Freda ............ I`d spend it on my Freda.

grooved disc in itself isnt a failure unless its below the min thickness stamped on disc or it affects the efficiency, chances are if you take it to a different station they wont even mention it.Down to inspectors discretion or mood

I had a slight grooving on my passenger rear disk where the pads wore out and grooved the disk, i put new pads on and thought i would risk the mot as they had a few months to wear it out before judgment day  there was still a faint groove when it went in for mot but it flew through

Speaking of groovy discs...Isn't it a pity that E.B.C or black diamond don't make some nice cross drilled and grooved discs for the bongo? They'd look nice through my rims!
