Whats the chances of a cooked engine.?

Driving back from York this afternoon a water pipe burst under the drivers seat.
Within seconds of noticing white smoke belching from behind me i was off the road. Temp gauge had just gone above 12oclock and about 2 inches of water left in the header tank.
AA recovered us but whats the chances of serious damage ? And what hoses will i need.?

No idea about the hose as there's several but, as you stopped so quickly, I would hope that you've done no permanent damage.

just had the same happen to me,mine went on Monday i replaced it then bled it please read the fact sheet and make sure you bleed it correctly,also mine went all week ok then on friday my water pump went possibly due to Mondays episode,you should get yourself some form of warming system,i personally have a mason alarm and am about to fit a haydn engine saver alarm,these will give you plenty of warning,good luck neil...

I had a similar thing happen the other week & i know of two others on this forum having the same problem recently.. Bongomaan being one of the victims.
It must be catching!!
For me it was the top hose (the fat one under the drivers seat).
I had a Mason temperature alarm fitted that warned me, otherwise i wouldn't have noticed the steam or the temperature rise..
I stopped immediately and was alarmed to find steam coming out from under the drivers door.

Once fixed.. I've had no problems.
I thought i might have cooked the engine too, all is fine with mine!

...Having said that, Neil's made me paranoid about my water pump now...!

Your making me laugh here......... Ive just said to hubby.......OHHHH NOOOOO.... not the water pump aswell !!!!!!!! I had that much white smoke belching i felt like a ghostbusters wagon. Im sure that everything happened in a split second so hopefully everything will be ok.

PS. Going to sell the full body kit ive just bought to keep up with the proper repairs.

watch that header tank religiously,even after four days i was still checking it every trip,i really dont want to make you paranoid but dont want you to blow yer head either,are you getting plenty heat out of the blowers ?....ps jaylee i think i have victim written all over me !!!!

If you are sure the temp gauge didn't go above 12 o'clock I would guess you have got away with it. Well spotted and well done. You had coolant left in the tank..that's also good...You must now replace that hose..check all the others and BLEED IT PROPERLY.

You need one of two hoses..Either the big fat one...cylinder head to metal pipe (top hose) or engine block (over the starter) to rear heater.

I think its the big fat one that i need but will check tomorrow as it was dark when we returned with the AA. Just hoping that i can get the hose or hoses quickly and find someone who will do the bleeding PROPERLY I really should have changed all the hoses straight away as it has been one of my concerns from the beginning.

Check all the hoses, even if it's obvious one has gone, there may be more on the verge.
I'd definitely recommend very regular underbonnet & underseat checks and some alarms .

The white smoke was what i had Bev.. Steam!! I assumed the leak was spraying on the hot engine & boiling off..

I too check my header tank religiously & get plenty of heat from the blower.

well mason alarm saved me,i think what happens is you go along thinking i"ll get some alarms,i"ll get some alarms,,then something happens and it could be too late,so the message has to be protect your investment.....

Ive emailed Flippa and left my phone number. Hoping to get something sorted before he goes on holiday. A Full set is needed i think and just do the whole lot, little less to worry about.
Just had the bongo into the garage and asked them if the hoses seemd ok. Just grateful to everyone here, without reading about this prior to today im sure that i would have driven a bit further
