Mason alarm on V6 petrol Bongo

Post by Ron Miel » Fri Oct 31, 2008 9:45 pm

Does anybody know if the Mason Alarm works OK with the temp gauge in a V6? Dave Mason is not sure if the same gauge is fitted as in TD Bongo. If nobody has tried it, I'll buy and try - and post the answer.

Hi cheffy. Thanks for that useful info - although you may have seen from the also current message thread on various marks of the Haydn coolant loss alarm, that there's now also the Oz TM-2 to consider. Have asked if anybody's tried it but if not, I think I might be a guinea pig. It has the additional benefit of being existing gauge/sensor independent - although it's a bit pricey. Still, as you say, for more peace of mind, it's worth a few bob spent.

Cheers

I do fancy the Tm2, i like the digi read out and it would be nice to know the head temp but theres the price, i was lookin ages ago on an Aussie site at them and decided on coolant loss and mason, there are plenty of conflicting opinions on all the alarms but at the end of the day it what you want :!:

All true cheffy24 but our Bongo, when it IS ours next week, is our retirement present to ourselves, and we've splashed out on a good one, so I guess I don't want to spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar at this stage. Will still do a separate posting re the TM-2 now, before turning in, as missfixit70/Kirsty reckons there are quite a few fitted.

Re plenty more V6s on the way (and ta for the welcome), most of the converters we spoke to recently are getting very leery about importing more Bongos at all, until if/when the exchange rate improves. Maybe all the ones already here will become worth millions in time as a result #-o

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find something out about my V6. I had it plugged into a diags computer the other day, the info available is very detailed, one of the figures was the coolant temp.

There are devices that report out all kinds of things (bit like a trip computer) that plug into the OBD diags port on modern cars.

http://www.scangauge.com

Anyway if this car has the OBD port on it (not sure it does) then one of these would be great as you'd get tons of info out

Coolant alarm on this car could still be a good idea, I thought it was the complex pipework on the bongo that was the "weak" point rather than the actual engine. If you have any issue with this side the engine would overheat and get damaged.

I guess it's down the personal choice, I haven't got one yet but should do really as I would be gutted if the worst did happen.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere with that gauge.

Andy
