I've now found a source for single shot fluorescent dye:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123
the supplier has confirmed to me that this can be used in coolant systems.
also a uv torch:-

Before sending off for these I am going to do a visual inspection when the engine is running and hottish.

I looked at the radiator cap - when I took it off (cold engine - expansion tank topped up day before) the coolant level was at the very brim of the neck, can someone confirm that this is how it should be.

Yes !! this is as it should be. Brim full ...to ensure this is as it is....take off the header tank cap then release the rad cap till coolant overflows then tighten the rad cap. This way no air can be trapped at the top of the Rad.

If you go to the Tracerline website you will see they sell that stuff for A/C systems and another type for cooling systems.
I use the cooling system one...not saying that won't work but just for info.
